Our discussion topics centered around “Best Talent Rewards Practice,” which required 2 groups due to the large interest in this topic, and "Recruiting and Retaining."  The notes from the Recruiting and Retaining discussion are below:

Recruiting and Retaining

  • How do we prevent shrinkage of talented staff?
  • How do we find the right talent?
  • Generational differences
  • Attendance Issues
Ideas:
90 day probation period
Assessment testing
Taking calls during the interview process
Hiring 15 to 20; expecting a drop out of at least 5
Hiring for peak times

Examples of success:
150% attrition to 7% through hiring quality rather then quantity, spiffs on retention intervals, and hooks. ICE (earned points toward cruises); Toyota (Leased Toyota vehicle with insurance and maintenance); budget for teams to have fun; food a highlight in all centers.

The younger generation is looking for quick advancement yet a balanced life, not open to OT. They also have an entitlement attitude.

Every center has an attendance policy and stated that there are those folks who burn through all they can walking the fence no matter how tight or lenient the policy is.

Upon leaving, ICE presented each participant a gift bag with a complimentary luggage tag and a $300 cruise discount certificate!  Thank you ICE Gallery.

We hope to see everyone at the CCNG Regional Conference which will be held on November 1st at the Phoenix Airport Marriott.  You may visit our web site for further details.
